Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - Andy Simunic and Brian Pellegrini sparked a productive Lancaster lineup, combining to go 7-for-10 with five RBIs and five runs scored as the JetHawks defeated Modesto 10-6 in the finale of a three-game series at Clear Channel Stadium Friday.
The JetHawks grabbed the early lead by scoring a run off Modesto starter Juan Nicasio in the bottom of the first. Simunic hit a one-out single and Lee Cruz laced an RBI double into the left field corner, which gave Lancaster a 1-0 edge.
Modesto got solo home runs from Thomas Field and Jordan Pacheco in the top of the third and seized a 2-1 advantage.
But the JetHawks immediately answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame. With two men on, Pellegrini ripped a two-run double and Lancaster grabbed a 3-2 lead.
After Modesto knotted the score on an RBI single in the top of the fifth, Lancaster answered with a run in the bottom of the inning. Simunic hit a leadoff triple and Lee Cruz knocked him in with an RBI single, which made it a 4-3 contest.
The JetHawks broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Simunic and Pellegrini each hit RBI singles in the inning and Brandon Barnes belted a two-run home run - his 30th in a JetHawks uniform - and Lancaster extended its lead to 9-3.
Simunic matched his career-high with four hits along with four runs scored and an RBI. Pellegrini went 3-for-5 with a double, four RBIs and a run scored.
