SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Little Lucy Simoes is progressing nicely, weighing in at a hefty four pounds and one ounce, and on target to go home from the hospital in the middle of May with parents Mary and RiverKings defenseman David Simoes.

Simoes missed several of the regular season RiverKings games when Luci was born prematurely in February weighing just over one and half pounds. After the first scary few weeks, however, Lucy has made good progress.

Now the Simoes are faced with a different dilemma: surviving financially. Due to injuries sustained during the season and immigration issues, David is not able to work and insurance doesn't cover everything....What to do?

Thankfully, local fans and friends across the country have stepped up to help. The most recent fundraiser to help the Simoes family is a spaghetti dinner hosted by the RiverKings With A Cause club on Sunday, May 16 from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the Bank Plus Training Center building, located at 7168 Moore Drive in Southaven.

Plates will be available at a suggested donation of $10 per adult, $5 per child (12 and under) and $7 per take-out tray. Dinner includes salad, spaghetti, bread, drink and dessert.

"We are just so thankful for the way so many people have pitched in to help us during this tough time," Simoes said. "We are so grateful for our friends and family from all over, but it's been a wonderful surprise to be the recipients of Southern hospitality and to have people willing to help take care of us so far from home."

For more information on the spaghetti dinner, contact Niki Miller at 901-619-7868 or campercitychic@yahoo.com. The RiverKings With A Cause club is a fan-run, team-supervised charity club. It gives fans an opportunity to do volunteer work, supports the team's charitable initiatives, and invites the players to participate in community efforts.

Your Mississippi RiverKings are getting ready for another great season of hockey action, the team's 19th season in the Mid-South. For information on season tickets, call the RiverKings at 662-342-1755 or go online to www.riverkings.com today!
