Silvertips Sign First Round Draft Pick

Vice President / General Manager Doug Soetaert announced today that goaltender Kent Simpson has signed with the club and will make his Silvertips debut in this weekend's fourth annual Everett Silvertips Pre- Season Tournament. The 1992-born Edmonton native was Everett's first round selection in the 2007 draft following a successful career at the bantam level. After five drafts in the club's history, Simpson looks to continue the trend of Everett receiving excellent productivity from their selections. "We're excited to have him join our organization," said Soetaert. "He's a quality young man who has a great work ethic. He has a very bright future in hockey."

Simpson made a strong impression during the 2007 Silvertips' Rookie Camp, stopping 37 of the 39 shots he faced, spanning four games. Standing in at 6'1 and weighing 168 pounds, Simpson already shows formidable size in net at just fifteen years of age. He was drafted 22nd overall, just one spot behind Medicine Hat goaltender Tyler Bunz.

As he is still among the 35 skaters remaining at Silvertips' training camp, Simpson will be tested this weekend as Everett prepares to open up the pre- season portion of their schedule Friday night with a 7:05 meeting with the defending Memorial Cup winners, the Vancouver Giants. That game is part of the fourth annual Everett Silvertips Preseason Tournament, featuring all five teams from the U.S. Division as well as the Giants and Chilliwack Bruins.
