Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- Brandon Wheat Kings' 2007 Western Hockey League Training Camp continued Thursday night with the club's Rookie Intrasquad game at Westman Place.

Defenceman Alexander Grill-Donovan turned out to be the scoring hero, beating netminder Devin Dubyk and giving Team Black a dramatic 5-4 Overtime Shootout victory over Team White. Grill-Donovan, a 6'2" 180 lb Calgary product, was Brandon's sixth round pick (113th overall) in the 2005 WHL bantam draft and his goal ended quite the Shootout marathon as a total of thirty skaters took turns shooting on Dubyk and Graham Hildebrand.

Wilcox, Saskatchewan product Rylan Schwartz scored once and set up another for the winners Thursday night, while singles came off the sticks of Jordan DePape, Brendan Rouse and Sanfred King, the Wheat Kings' first round pick in the 2005 draft.

Brandon Regier had a goal and an assist in a losing cause, while singles came off the sticks of Jesse Pentland, Brendan Walker and Brayden Schenn.

Schenn also scored two goals earlier in the day as his White Team dropped a 10-6 decision to the Blacks. A Jay Moore scored three times for the winners while Johnny Calkins fired a pair and Schwartz, who finished second in scoring in the Saskatchewan AAA Midget Hockey League last winter, had a goal and four points.

Thursday night's game brought an end to the Wheat Kings' Rookie Camp and set the stage for the start of Main Camp, scheduled to get underway Friday morning with a scrimmage game at 10 a.m.

Over forty players including thirteen veterans will take the ice on Friday. In addition to the 10 a.m. game, the two teams will face off again at six.

Among the players hoping to return to action Friday will be 16-year old Winnipegger Scott Glennie. The Wheat Kings' second round selection in the 2006 bantam draft has missed the first two days of camp with a bad case of the flu. Glennie was one of four players absent from Thursday's action. Others included Buddy Yewchyn (hip flexor), Jordan Hale (hamstring) and goalkeeper Andrew Hayes (broken finger). Defenceman Derek Robinson meanwhile sustained a neck strain and didn't play in Thursday night's game.

The weeklong camp will come to an end Sunday afternoon with the annual Canad Inns Intrasquad game, scheduled for 2 p.m.
