Atlanta Silverbacks News Release
The Atlanta Silverbacks traveled south on a two-game road trip last weekend and came away with a win against the Puerto Rico Islanders and a loss to Miami FC. With a 3-2-2 record and 11 points, the Silverbacks rank third just below the Vancouver Whitecaps and the Montreal Impact in the USL First Division Standings. The Silverbacks beat the Puerto Rico Islanders 3-2 on Friday night after being down a goal twice during the match and scoring the game winner in the 88th minute. Rafique Hassim, starting for an injured Machel Millwood, scored the first two goals, and Dayton O'Brien clenched the game with a goal in the final minutes. David Hayes recorded the first assist and Daniel Antoniuk assisted both Hassim and O'Brien in the final two goals of the match. Hassim earned a spot on the USL Team of the Week with his two goals in the game against Puerto Rico. The heat and humidity caught up to the Silverbacks on Sunday afternoon in the second-leg of the road trip; the 'Backs lost 2-1 to Miami FC at the Orange Bowl. Antoniuk scored early, giving Atlanta the lead in just the fifth minute, but the Silverbacks couldn't hold on and Miami scored two goals in the second half. The Silverbacks will rekindle their biggest rivalry this weekend when they take on the Charleston Battery at Blackbaud Stadium on Saturday night. Watch the game live on www.usllive.com.
