Dayton Silverbacks News Release
While the schedule may have had the Miami Valley Silverbacks down for a bye, the organization was anything but idle last week. The organization took a giant step toward a long future on the indoor football landscape with a pair of moves inside the front office Tuesday.
Matthew King was promoted from general manager and head coach to President of the Silverbacks. King's first duty was to promote Carl Allen to head coach. Mike Savino was promoted to offensive coordinator.
"This is a great opportunity for me," King said. "For two seasons, I have split time between running the organization and coaching a professional football team. Both have suffered because of my lack of full commitment. The organization comes first because without it, there is no team. I will miss coaching, but I am excited about providing an even better product for our fans and sponsors."
King had led both the Silverbacks and the Dayton Warbirds to the playoffs as a head coach, but also has a vast business background. In 2001, he served as the President of Excel Sports Consultant, Ltd. before selling the company in 2005. In 2005, King was honored as the Businessman of the Year and was named "Top 30 under 30."
"Matt is a great coach, but he is an awesome organizational leader," Silverbacks owner Jeff Kolaczkowski said. "He has been balancing both running the organization and coaching the team. He had been stretched too thin, and now we believe that he can focus on building the Silverbacks as a first-class organization."
Allen is no stranger to King and indoor football.
"I am very thankful for Jeff and Matt offering me this position," Allen said. "I believe that I am inheriting a great team. I have some big shoes to fill with Matt's previous success, but I will still be working closely with him, which I am thankful for."
Allen will be making his head coaching debut Saturday night at 7 p.m. when the Silverbacks (0-2) look to break into the win column against Marion (1-1) at Rapid Fire Field at Hobart Arena in Troy.
Tickets are still available at the Hobart Arena box office, or online at www.silverbacksfootball.com.
