Silverbacks to hold press conference
The Continental Indoor Football League's (CIFL) Miami Valley Silverbacks will hold a press conference on Tuesday, October 19 at 2:30 p.m. in Hara's Conference Center.
With a new era about to start at Hara Arena, Miami Valley Silverbacks General Manager Ryan Evans is injecting new energy into the professional indoor football team as they prepare to enter their fifth season.
"I'm truly excited to be part of one of the longest-running professional indoor football teams in the country," Evans said. "Now that Hara Arena is our new home, we will be able to reach out to the Dayton community a lot better, and run the organization the way we have been wanting to."
Evans has named Michael Kiraly as the Director of Football Operations of the Silverbacks. Kiraly joins the team after naming former National Football League player Derrick Sheppard as the new head coach of the franchise.
"We will not be the same Silverbacks team in as in the past. We will bring a family oriented atmosphere to Hara Arena this year," Evans said. "We have a strong minded staff in place to make this season and future seasons fun and affordable for Dayton families."
Evans comes to the Silverbacks highly recommended having professional sports experience in 2005 with the Cincinnati Marshals and with the Dayton Dragons in 2008.
Derrick Sheppard moves from being the line coach to the head coach for the Silverbacks.
Sheppard graduated from Meadowdale High School before playing collegiately at Georgia Tech. He spent time with the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots before spending three seasons with Arizona and Detroit of the AFL.
Silverbacks' owner Jeff Kolaczkowski is optimistic about the new staff and the move to Hara Arena.
"I am extremely excited about the new additions to the staff. Ryan has done a tremendous job in diligently going through the interviewing process and making the right decisions for our organization," Kolaczkowski said.
The Silverbacks will also be holding their first tryout for the 2011 squad on Saturday, October 23 at Englewood Indoor Soccer. The Silverbacks kick off their fifth season in March and anticipate the CIFL releasing their schedule in the near future.
