Dayton Silverbacks News Release
(Troy, OH) The Miami Valley Silverbacks professional indoor football team has added former Wittenberg University All-American running back Tristan Murray to the 2007 roster.
After breaking numerous Wittenberg records and becoming just the second player in school history to rush for more than 4,000 yards in his career, Murray was appropriately honored by d3football.com and Don Hansen's Football Gazette. Murray earned first-team All-North Region honors from each organization, followed up by third-team All-America from d3football.com and first-team All-America from Don Hansen's Football Gazette.
Murray was named 2006 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Offensive Player of the Year and one of ten finalists for the prestigious Gagliardi Award.
Murray also earned recognition as one of 148 semifinalists for the Draddy Trophy, presented by HealthSouth, an award presented annually by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF), and a first-team CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV selection earlier this season.
"Tristan is a very talented running back," stated Silverbacks Head Coach & General Manager Matthew King. "He is very balanced. He has good speed and agility. He also has strong legs and a nice stiff-arm. We are excited to see what he will be able to do to help us this season."
Murray capped his three-year career in the Red & White with his best season yet in 2006, and he etched his name in the record books as one of the greatest running backs in Wittenberg University history. After transferring to Wittenberg from Brown University in December 2003, Murray appeared in 31 games and rushed for a school-record-tying 24 touchdowns.
Murray topped 100 yards nine straight weeks in 2006, which broke school records for consecutive 100-yard games and 100-yard games in a season. He finished with 1,517 rushing yards to lead the NCAC and rank sixth in NCAA Division III. That rushing total is the third-highest in school history for yards in a season.
For good measure, Murray also led the Tigers, who won the NCAC title with a 6-1 record, in receiving with 28 catches for 362 yards. Wittenberg advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time since 2002 before bowing out in the first round to fourth-ranked Capital, 32-14, on Nov. 18.
The Silverbacks, a member of the Continental Indoor Football League, are gearing up for their 2007 home opener against the Chicago Slaughter on March 30th at Rapid Fire Field at Hobart Arena. Silverbacks' tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at Hobart Arena, online at www.silverbacksfootball.com, or by calling (937) 339-2911.
