Silverados Trade Jenkins For Jones
October 16, 2007 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1)
Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release
The Rio Grande Valley Silverados of the CBA announced today that they have traded their First Round Draft Pick, Ivan Jenkins from the recent Continental Basketball Association Draft that was held two weeks ago.
The Silverados dealt Jenkins, a 6'0 point guard to the East Kentucky Miners for their fifth round draft selection, combo guard Dwight Jones and the Miners 3rd Round Draft Choice in the 2008 CBA Draft.
Jones is 6'4 and can play either guard position. He had a stellar collegiate career at Houston Baptist University. Jones averaged 20.8ppg, 3.8apg, 1.7rpg, and 1.5steals.
During his career Jones was named Conference Newcomer of the Year, was a four year All-Conference performer, and was an All-American choice.
"We just felt that making this move makes our depth and team better heading into our Veterans Training Camp. There is no doubt that Jenkins is a high quality player and that is why I drafted him so high, but so is Dwight, and what I really like about Jones is that he's a bigger guard that can play both guard positions. I believe both of these guys are going to have excellent professional careers. In addition, anytime you can pick up extra draft choices is a good thing too and we got that within this deal as well!" States Silverados head coach, Steve Tucker.
The RGV Silverados players report to the Valley on October 31st and will officially begin Veterans Training Camp workouts on November 2nd.
