Silverados Name Assistant Coaches
July 11, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release
The Rio Grande Valley Silverados head coach Steve Tucker announced that he has hired two assistant coaches for his coaching staff.
Matthew Palmquist and Andres Saenz have been selected by coach Tucker to be on the Silverados Coaching Staff for the upcoming 2007-08 basketball season.
"I am excited about the opportunity to work with Matt and Andy! They are good people and young men who want to pursue careers in coaching. Both of these young men have shown me that they'll be honest, loyal, and hard workers. That is so important in this business of coaching today! I feel both of these young men will compliment all that we will do with our Silverados team and within all of our basketball operations department. Both of these coaches fit the mold of coaches that I've had on my coaching staffs in the past and I'm sure both will be outstanding coaches in their own right some day in the future!" States Silverados veteran head coach Steve Tucker.
Matt Palmquist grew up in Bastrop, TX (just outside of Austin). He played for four seasons at the University of Texas - Pan American. He had an excellent career at UTPA as he finished in the top ten in field goal percentage for his career and is the #3 shot blocker in UTPA history. Palmquist is married, and he and his wife Monica have a son (Evan) and daughter (Juliann). Matt has a bachelor of arts degree from UTPA in communications and business.
Andy Saenz is from McAllen and is a graduate of Nikki Rowe High School. Andy was an All-Area MVP, All Valley MVP, and was First Team All-Region during his high school playing career. Andy attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX, where he started his senior season as a forward. Saenz graduated with a degree in exercise/sports science and sociology. Andy is single.
Coach Steve Tucker is known for turning players and assistant coaches into head coaches. Tucker has numerous former players and assistant coaches coaching in the USA and around the world (all the way from the NBA to the high school ranks). "Over the years I've had some very knowledgeable coaches and players on my staffs and teams! I feel that during their tenures under my direction they took a lot from the experiences that we went through both on and off the basketball court. Hopefully some of those things helped them become the coaches they are today! I'm very proud of these men and so happy I was associated with them. I'm sure our coaches on our coaching staff here with the RGV Silverados will gain from their experiences with our team and I'm sure they'll give a lot back to our team and franchise in the future!"
