COACH'S CORNER:

Silver Stars' Head Coach Dan Hughes' thoughts on last week's play and this week's opponents:

On the Sacramento Monarchs-

"Defensively they are a team that deserves to be called the best defensive team in the league. They cause a lot of turnovers so you have to really take care of the ball. I think when you look at their efficiency defensively; it comes from great mobility inside with Yolanda Griffith. Also, with DeMya Walker out, Rebekkah Brunson has come in and just played tremendous which gives them good depth in their post players. Ticha Penicheiro distributes the ball very well and Nicole Powell has given them a legitimate scorer from anywhere on the court so they have a nice blend of different things and they have been a real consistently good team from early on to now late in the season they continue their effort so they will be a challenge for us."

On the Los Angeles Sparks-

"Los Angeles to me is one of the most talented teams we face. Anytime you start in the middle with Lisa Leslie and then have Chamique Holdsclaw on the perimeter you have a legitimate inside/outside threat right there with just those two. Nikki Teasley, Tamecka Dixon and Doneeka Hodges have all played certain roles for the Sparks this year. Mwadi Mabika is back playing with them and Tamika Whitmore is having one of her better years as a professional so you have an extremely talented team. The Sparks like to play in transmission. They want to play a lot of possessions in order to distribute the ball to all their scorers and defensively they play a lot of multiple defenses forcing you to adjust. They have had some great wins and then some inconsistent play but there is no denying their talent because they are the most offensively gifted team we will face all year."
