COACH'S CORNER:
Silver Stars' Head Coach Dan Hughes' thoughts on how he wants to close out the season and this week's opponents:
On how to close out the season-
"We want to see improvement and good basketball. I think that it is really important right now that we end the season trying to go one more step further offensively, defensively and as a team. A lot of these players will return along with new additions at this point, so we would like to just end the year with a good feel from an energy standpoint, a performance standpoint and an execution standpoint."
On the Seattle Storm-
"Seattle will come in very motivated on the edge of the playoffs. When you talk about them you of course talk about Sue Bird and Lauren Jackson. Jackson is a premiere post-player who has the ability to shoot from the perimeter on top of all her skills under the basket. Bird gives them a great perimeter threat to play off of Jackson. Their pick-and-roll is one the more difficult things in this league to deal with. The heart and soul of the Seattle Storm starts with Bird and Jackson and for us to be successful we have to do a good job of defending them along with making them work. We have to create a game that forces them to play in a half court situation because they are a great transition team. If we can do that and not let Jackson dominate the game while staying in play with Bird it becomes a game we have control of."
On the Los Angeles Sparks-
"With a coaching change late in the season, Los Angeles is a team that is really playing for the playoffs right now. I think Lisa Leslie is playing some of her best basketball. She has been really assertive and been looking to make plays both offensively and defensively. Doneeka Hodges has been like a secret weapon for them. She came into the year a little under the radar and has really stepped up. The Sparks are a really talented team that offensively can really challenge you. They are a team with a lot of fire power so we have to come in and match that with good defensive play and at the same time be able to score inside and outside. For us to be successful we will have to have a certain balance to our play."
