San Antonio Stars News Release
Silver Stars Gear Up for Mexico: This Thursday the San Antonio Silver Stars and the Detroit Shock will play in the first ever WNBA game hosted outside of the United States, as the teams square off at Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico at 8:30 p.m. CT. The Silver Stars will make several community appearances at local schools throughout the Monterrey area and attend a reception at the U.S. Embassy.
Margo and Biba Win Polish Championship: The Silver Stars Polish duo of Agnieszka "Biba" Bibrzycka and Margo Dydek guided Lotos VBW Clima Gydnia to the Polish Championship earlier today. Clima Gydnia defeated Stary Browar AZS Poznañ 82-74 to capture the title three games to one. "Biba" finished with 21 points and grabbed four rebounds in the win while Dydek collected her third double-double of the series finishing with 20 points and 11 rebounds. The victory gave Clima Gydnia their seventh consecutive Polish League Title.
"Biba" and Dydek will meet the rest of the Silver Stars team in Mexico for their first preseason game.
Marie Ferdinand Captures Russian Championship: Margo and "Biba" aren't the only Silver Stars to win a championship overseas. Silver Stars guard Marie Ferdinand helped guide VGM-SGAU Samara to the Russian Championship this past Monday sweeping UMMC Ekaterinburg in three games. Samara came into the Finals as the underdogs after Ekaterinburg signed WNBA MVP Lauren Jackson to a contract just for the championship series. After defeating their Russian foes 88-76 in Game 1, Samara took Game 2 behind the clutch shooting of Ferdinand. With the game on the line, the Silver Stars guard hit the game-winner to give Samara a 67-65 victory. Game 3 was just as close, but Samara found a way to win defeating Ekaterinburg 67-66 to take home the championship.
