Silver Stars Waive Shanavia Dowdell

SAN ANTONIO - The Silver Stars today announced that they have waived forward Shanavia Dowdell. San Antonio initially signed her to a training camp contract on February 3, 2011. The Silver Stars roster now stands at 14.

Dowdell was originally selected by the Washington Mystics with the 18th overall pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft. She earned her degree from Louisiana Tech in 2010 where she was a two-time WAC Player of the Year and two-time All-WAC First Team honoree. As a senior, Dowdell averaged 18.0 points, 12.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.2 blocks per game. She ranked third in the NCAA in rebounds per game while leading the nation with 22 double-doubles on the year.

The Silver Stars open the 2011 season on June 4 with a 7 p.m. tip-off against the visiting Tulsa Shock.
