San Antonio Stars News Release

SAN ANTONIO, May 13, 2010 - The Silver Stars today announced that they have waived guards Charel Allen and Quianna Chaney and forward Lacey Simpson in an effort to meet the WNBA deadline for final rosters on Friday, May 14.

San Antonio signed Chaney to a training camp contract on Feb. 24, 2010. She was selected 19th overall by the Chicago Sky in the 2008 WNBA Draft and tallied averages of 2.4 points, 1.0 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 8.6 minutes per game in her rookie season. During the 2008-09 offseason, Chaney played for Energa Toruñ (Toruñ, Poland), then she joined Samsun Basketbol in Samsun, Turkey, for 2009-10.

The Silver Stars picked up Allen on April 13, 2010. An alumna of Notre Dame, Allen originally was selected in the third round (43rd overall) of the 2008 WNBA Draft by the now-defunct Sacramento Monarchs and played in six games, averaging 2.7 points and 1.0 rebounds per game.

A 2010 graduate of Illinois, Simpson finished her Fighting Illini career ranked second all-time in career blocks (163), third in assists (451), fourth in rebounds (400) and 17th in scoring (1166). Simpson is the only player in Illinois history with 100-plus assists in each of her four seasons. Additionally, she earned several conference honors during her collegiate career, including two-time Big Ten All-Defensive team accolades (2009, 2010) and two-time third team All-Big Ten recognition by the media (2009, 2010).

The Silver Stars open the 2010 regular season this Saturday with a 7 p.m. tip-off against the visiting Atlanta Dream. Tickets for Opening Night start at just $10 and are on sale now. Visit www.sasilverstars.com or call (210) 444-5090 for more information.
