San Antonio Stars News Release

As part of WNBA Cares Week of Service and in conjunction with National Salvation Army Week, the Silver Stars have partnered with the Salvation Army San Antonio Area Command to lend a helping hand in the community.

Silver Stars guard Becky Hammon, forward Megan Frazee and centers Ruth Riley and Jayne Appel will visit one of the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of San Antonio on Friday, May 14, to speak to approximately 60 students in the center's after-school program about making their dreams a reality. The event begins at 3:30 p.m.

National Salvation Army Week officially was recognized by President Eisenhower in 1957 and as part of the week, each Salvation Army around the country hosts a series of community events. Some of their local programs include emergency shelter for men, women and children; transitional housing for women and families; senior nutrition programs; youth services; affordable housing for low income seniors; worker's program for homeless men; rent and utility assistance; food pantry assistance; Boys & Girls Clubs; worship services; and disaster response.

In addition to Friday's event, the Salvation Army will be at the Silver Stars season opener against the Atlanta Dream at the AT&T Center this Saturday, May 15, collecting change and passing out information.
