Silver Sox Sunk by Armada

August 7, 2007 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Reno Silver Sox News Release

The Reno Silver Sox lost yet again to the Los Angeles Armada tonight, August 6, by a final score of 10 - 1.

Reno Silver Sox starter Chris Saenz, making his first appearance at Peccole Park looked great and constantly kept the Armada batters guessing as to what his next pitch was going to be. Saenz finished the game pitching six innings, allowing three runs off of six hits, but struck out nine Armada batters.

The Silver Sox took the lead in the second when LF Kane Simmons hit his GBL leading 14 homerun.

The Armada would strike back in the fourth inning with two runs of their own and then again with one more run in the sixth inning.

With the score now 3 - 1, the Silver Sox had a chance to take the lead back in the eighth. With two outs and the bases loaded, 1B Adam Amar came to the plate, Amar worked the count from 0-2 to 2-2 and everyone was on edge as any hit would more than likely bring in two runs. However, Amar took a big cut and the ball hit the catchers mit, sending the Silver Sox back onto the field still down 3 - 1.

Silver Sox Manager Les Lancaster than handed the game over to Eric Brock to try and hold the Armada and give the Silver Sox one more chance to come back. However, after an error by Amar which allowed the runners to advance to second and third, and then a bad throw to home by SS Sam Walker, which allowed a run to score on a fielder's choice, Brock seemed to get rattled. Brock loaded the bases and then left a ball over the plate for a grand slam.

The Armada would score three more runs before the inning was over, and the Silver Sox wouldn't come to close to threatening in the bottom of the ninth. The final score 10 - 1.

The Reno Silver Sox now go on a six day, seven game road trip down to Yuma and then to Los Angeles. The Silver Sox return to Peccole Park on Monday, August 13, for a two game series against the St. George Roadrunners.
