Syracuse Silver Knights News Release

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - In front of an electric crowd of 2,871, the Syracuse Silver Knights fell to the Baltimore Blast 15-13 in overtime on Sunday. The Silver Knights close their inaugural season with a 9-14 record.

Six different players found net for the Silver Knights. Both Enrique Tovar and Nelson Santana put their names on the score sheet a second time, each providing assists on goals. Tovar's goal was his fifth in five games since joining the team in February. Santana's goal was his 15th on the season with his 13th save, giving him a total of 43 points.

The Blast scored quickly to open the game with Adriano Dos Santos scoring just nine seconds into the game. Liverpool native J.D. Gruenewald provided quick turnaround for the Knights with a goal just under two minutes later. After taking the lead a few moments later on Tovar's goal, Baltimore responded with two of their own, taking a 6-4 lead into the second quarter. Another goal by each team in the second quarter left the difference at two with the Blast holding the 8-6 lead at halftime.

Both teams emerged reenergized in the second half. Andriy Budnyy had a three-point brace to put the Knights on top, and Ryan Pierce solidified the lead 14 seconds later with a goal of his own. With goals on each side of the final break, the Blast retook the lead. With just five minutes left in regulation, Richard Shaw provided the equalizer to tie the game at 13 points apiece. Despite a flurry of activity on both ends, neither team found a game-winner, sending the game into overtime. The Blast ended the 2011-12 MISL regular season with a goal 56 seconds in to seal the game for playoff-bound Baltimore.
