Silver Knights Clipped by Wings

Syracuse Silver Knights News Release
Following a tough loss last Friday night, the Syracuse Silver Knights traveled to Wichita Sunday afternoon to face the struggling Wings, 0-3 on the season. The Silver Knights were unable to end their recent slide, however, as they fell 8-6 in overtime as Freddie Moojen scored the game-winning goal for the Wings.
The Wings got off to a quick start, feeding off of the boisterous hometown crowd as Andrew Hoxie scored quickly into the first quarter. The Wings played a very patient and controlled first quarter, challenging the Syracuse backline. However, the Knights defense, led by Nelson Santana and goalkeeper Bryan O'Quinn, responded well to the pressure and the score remained 2-0 heading into the second quarter.
A couple of hard fouls in the beginning of the second quarter upped the ante for both teams and a more aggressive, physical style of play emerged from that point on. Wings forward Geison Moura scored 30 seconds into the quarter off a restart. After trailing 4-0, the Knights rallied strongly and sustained pressure on the Wings until a direct kick, taken by Slavisa Ubiparipovic, led to a Matt Clare's first goal with 12:32 left in the half. Although both teams had several opportunities before the break following Clare's goal, neither team would convert before the conclusion of the first half.
Three minutes into the third quarter the Wings' Miguel Ferrer scored to increase the deficit, 6-2. Some great passing sequences by the Knights allowed Clare to score again off a quickly taken restart, this time taken by Santana, and with 8:34 left in the third quarter the Knights pulled within two points of the Wings. O'Quinn had an outstanding set of saves during a Wings' power play to keep the game close heading into the final quarter.
A back-and-forth final quarter was highlighted by a Sliver Knight goal, once again off of a restart. A shot by Clare was collected on the rebound and finished by Elmo Neto with six minutes left, tying the game at 6-6 and forcing it into overtime.
The Wings were on the offensive for most of the overtime period, and scored after Frederico Moojen scored off the rebound of his own shot, giving Wichita their first win of the season.
