Silver Knights Fall in Florida
Coming into the two-match series with the Tropics this past weekend, the Silver Knights had a chance to take over second place in the MASL Eastern division and set the club up for a nice playoff run.
After two narrow defeats, Syracuse now finds itself in last place with four must-win games left on its schedule.
The Tropics withstood a barrage of shots from the Silver Knights, 89 to 47 in Syracuse's favor in the games, but Florida earned two victories by a total of three goals.
While these losses sting and put the Silver Knights in a tough spot, they were not the result of a lack of effort.
The Silver Knights displayed great fight and hustle, especially battling back from four goals in Sunday's match. This team didn't quit for a second - they just came up a little short on the road against an inspired team.
It's important to give the Tropics credit for their performance. Their defensive grit and the stellar play of goalkeeper Piotr Sliwa (now with three wins against Syracuse this season) deserve recognition.
Syracuse finds itself in must-win territory again, as it heads to Baltimore this weekend against the MASL champions. The Knights have to run the table, so you can expect exceptional effort from Syracuse's only professional soccer club.
We'll see the Blast back on Dave and Buster's Field on Feb. 24, when the Silver Knights honor local public safety professionals at Real Super-Hero Night.
