Syracuse Silver Knights News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - With a soccer resume that includes stints with the US Men's National U-18 team, a role in the ascension of the Syracuse University Men's soccer team, and a stellar high school career at West Genesee, Stefanos Stamoulacatos can now add the Syracuse Silver Knights to his professional resume.
Syracuse General Manager Tommy Tanner has followed the career path of Stamoulacatos since his scholastic days, and he hoped for this opportunity to add him to the club's roster.
"Stefanos has had a storied youth and college career. He's a player that I have targeted since he left Syracuse University to pursue his a career as a professional," Tanner said.
Silver Knights Coach Bryan O'Quinn shares Tanner's enthusiasm about the acquisition of Stamoulacatos for the Silver Knights, citing both his impressive talent and ties to the community.
"We are thrilled to have another standout local product join us this season," O'Quinn said of Stamoulacatos. "He is outstanding on the ball and has great creativity and vision. He performed quite well for us in the first week of the preseason, and we believe that he will be able to adjust well to the indoor game."
As a member of the Orange, Stamoulacatos played with current Silver Knights Ben Ramin and Andrew Coughlin. That squad also included Baldwinsville's Alex Bono, currently on the roster of Toronto FC of the MLS. The Orange soccer renaissance started in 2013, with the team advancing to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2014 and Final Four in 2015. The Orange are currently ranked 8th in the nation.
The Knights hope this talented rookie will help Syracuse progress as a club in the MASL and advance further in the playoffs. Last season, the Baltimore Blast barely edged the Silver Knights in the Eastern Division finals.
"Not only does he have great skill on the ball, but we have been very impressed early on with his ball striking ability," O'Quinn observed. "We believe that he can definitely grow into a scoring threat for our team."
Local soccer fans can look forward to cheering on Stamoulacatos this season as the Silver Knights compete on Dave and Buster's Field in the War Memorial Arena at Oncenter. The Knights open their season on Friday, Nov. 18, versus the Harrisburg Heat. For information on tickets, call 315-303-7261 or log onto www.syracusesilverknights.com
