Silver Hawks Ready To Open Up

South Bend, IN – The South Bend Silver Hawks, the class A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks have announced their opening day roster for the 2005 season, returning five of seven returning players who saw significant playing time with the Hawks last season.

Infielder Augie Murillo returns after playing a solid third base last season while showing his versatility by playing several games at first base. Murillo clubbed four homers and drove in 38 in 101 games. He missed a good chunk of the season due to a foot injury.

One of the fastest Silver Hawks in 2004 was Emilio Bonifacio. The 19 year old infielder wowed Silver Hawks fans with his blazing speed, swiping forty bases in fifty opportunities and finishing tied for the team lead in triples with six.

Alberto Gonzalez rounds out the position players who saw action in Coveleski Green. The Venezuelan native played in 100 games, driving in 25 runs, finishing the season with 16 doubles. Gonzalez displayed his penchant for being a middle infielder by playing both the shortstop and second base positions.

Two pitchers return to South Bend to help shore up the Silver Hawks starting rotation and bullpen. In 2004, Angel Rocha came to the Silver Hawks late in the season, starting nine games and finishing with a 2-3 mark and an ERA of 6.55.

Mark Rosen will come out if the pen for the Silver Hawks as he did 27 times last year. Rosen went 0-5 with an ERA of 6.55 and started six games as well.

Others that played in South Bend for a portion of the 2004 campaign include: Mark Reynolds, Jereme Milons and Carlos Gonzalez.

The Silver Hawks open their 2005 campaign Thursday, April 7th, when they host the Dayton Dragons for four games. Game times for Thursday through Saturday night are at 6:30 PM, with Sunday's game starting at 1:30 PM. Gates will open one hour prior to first pitch. Thursday is also Ultra Thursday with WB 25 & 103.9 The Bear, featuring live post-game entertainment with the Michelob Ultra Concert Series beginning May 26th and a special edition of Launch-a-Ball, where fans can win $1,000!
