February 8, 2006 - National Women's Basketball League (NWBL)
San Diego Siege News Release
The San Diego Siege officially begin their 2006 National Women's Basketball League season this Saturday by taking on the expansion San Francisco Legacy Saturday night.
The team leaves Friday for a three game road trip that concludes Tuesday evening against the 2005 NWBL Champion Colorado Chill. The Siege have been practicing and working out daily since arriving in San Diego and have the confidence needed to begin the season with three road dates.
"Obviously, it won't be easy" said Siege general manager David McElwee. "You're playing some of the best pro basketball players in the world on the road three out of four nights. But we have something those other teams don't - (head coach) Fred Williams. He will have this team prepared to win."
The Siege open their season Saturday February 11 against the San Francisco Legacy, then move on to San Jose to take on the second-year Spiders Sunday afternoon, February 12th. They board a plane Monday morning and head to Colorado to take on the Chill Tuesday evening, then make their way back to San Diego.
Once back in town, the team's focus shifts squarely toward the Home Opener, Saturday, February 18th against the San Jose Spiders. Tip-off is 7 pm at San Diego City College's brand new Harry West Gymnasium.
