Siege On The Road Again

March 3, 2006 - National Women's Basketball League (NWBL)
San Diego Siege News Release

The only blemish on the Siege's record came on their last road trip up north. The Siege will travel to San Francisco today to take on the Legacy, and tomorrow will face the Spiders in San Jose. The bench unit has developed into a solid group since their loss against San Jose on the second game of the season, so San Diego should be better equipped to handle the back-to-back road games.

The Legacy are in last place and still looking for their first win, but they have given the Siege problems the previous two games they played. The Legacy are a very quick and scrappy team, and have found away to disrupt the Siege offense. San Diego has to do a better job rebounding against the Legacy, if they couple that with solid defense the Siege have too many weapons for the Legacy to stand a chance.

"The key is to keep focused." Said Siege GM David McElwee. "Road trips in this league can be tough. We only travel nine of our 12 players, so foul trouble or injuries become much more looming than back home. And the last thing we want to do is take a determined team like San Fran lightly."

San Jose boasts some of the best shooters in the NWBL, and have proven no deficit is too much. Down by 24 points in the fourth quarter, the Spiders came within three points against the Siege the last time these two teams met. It's important the Siege stay with the Spider shooters, especially in transition; the Spiders love to take quick threes. The Siege learned no lead is safe, so they also have to stay focused for the full 40 minutes, which can be difficult on the back end of back-to-back games. The bench unit really needs to step up on Saturday, look for Abby Scharlow, Jessica Mercado, and Natalie Nakase to make big contributions.

The Siege next home game is Tuesday March 7, against the San Jose Spiders at 7p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling 619.398.8399.
