Siege Make Late Surge, Improve To 12-2

On a wild night littered with tough calls and tougher defense, the San Diego Siege proved victorious in Friday night's final minutes.

Down eight throughout much of the game, the Siege made a run of it as guards Jessica Mercado and Jessica Cheeks took the game beyond the three point line for the 80-79 victory in San Jose.

The Siege were without the services of NWBL MVP candidate Cathrine Kraayeveld and her 19.5 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. An ankle injury sustained Wednesday in practice kept her out of the game, but allowed for teammates to step up. Tera Bjorklund and Jessica Cheeks each scored 19 points while point guard Loree Moore added eight points and 13 big rebounds.

Cisti Greenwalt led the 4-8 Spiders with 18 points and 12 rebounds. After winning the first match up of the year, the Siege have run five straight to take the six game season series.

The Siege have Saturday off then travel to San Francisco Sunday evening for a game against the Legacy. They return home for their last two home games, Tuesday the 21st and Saturday the 25th. Both games are scheduled for 7 pm and are played at San Diego City College's Harry West Gymnasium.
