Siege Continue Winning Ways

March 1, 2006 - National Women's Basketball League (NWBL)
San Diego Siege News Release

In a game that looked much closer than it actually was, the Siege took down the San Jose Spiders 99-95 on Tuesday night in San Diego. The Siege were in control from the opening tip, led by forward Cathrine Kraayeveld, who posted a new NWBL career high in points with 33. The Siege are now 7-1

The Siege are used to fast starts and tonight was no different. San Diego started on a 7-0 run and finished the quarter up 20-13. Kraayeveld was unconscious, scoring 13 points to lead the Siege. Julie McBride kept the Spiders in it, hitting two threes and finishing the quarter with eight points.

The second quarter has traditionally been a pitfall for the Siege, but instead of letting the Spiders back in, the stepped on the accelerator. The Siege outscored the Spiders 27-13 in the period, and had a 21 point lead going into the half 47-26. Kraayeveld scored her season average in the first half with 19 points.

The Spiders refused to give up, and to their credit played very hard in the second half however the Siege were just too tough, and refused to let up. The Siege extended their lead and went into the fourth quarter with a comfortable cushion 76-52.

The Siege are off until a Northern California road trip against the Legacy and Spiders March 3-4. Their next home game is Tuesday March 7, at 7p.m., against these very Spiders.
