
Siege announce inagural season in press conference at San Diego's City Hall

After a 22-year absence, professional basketball makes its long overdue return to San Diego.
The San Diego Siege will become the newest professional women's basketball team to compete in the National Women's Basketball League. The Siege will announce its inclusion in the NWBL's sixth season at their inaugural press conference on the afternoon of Tuesday, November 1. The team will hold the press conference on the outdoor concourse of San Diego's City Hall with the proceedings set to commence at 12:30 p.m.
Introducing the Siege to the city will be Deputy Mayor Tony Atkins and the schedule of speakers includes NWBL President and Co-founder Patrick Alexander, Siege Head Coach Fred Williams and Siege General Manager David McElwee. Deputy Mayor Atkins will be presented with a Siege jersey given from the team to the city of San Diego. Included in the attendance will be the Siege's first roster acquisition, former UCLA standout Natalie Nakase, as well as members of the Siege's operational team.
The San Diego Siege arrives as San Diego's latest professional sports franchise. They will play in their inaugural season as part of the NWBL from February 1 - March 31, 2006. The upcoming season includes franchises from San Jose, Colorado, Houston, and, pending negotiations, San Francisco.
The Siege is in the final stages of negotiations with the San Diego Community College District about using the brand new Harry West Gymnasium for all 2006 home games. The state-of-the-art facility is located on the campus of San Diego City College and seats 2,000 people.
