Sidewinders see offense come to life in win

Tucson, AZ - For the second night in a row Tucson came back from a late game deficit to capture a 10-7 win over Iowa on Wednesday night.

The Sidewinders exploded for seven runs in the seventh inning to give Tucson the come from behind win. The Sidewinders entered the bottom of the 7th down two runs when Robby Hammock led things off with a solo shot to left. Salazar brought in the second run of the inning with a RBI single to center. The last five runs of the inning all came with two outs. Tim Raines, Jr. hit a two RBI double to left. Josh Whitesell followed with a single scoring two and Jesus Merchan brought in Whitesell with a triple to left. Hammock brought in Merchan with a single to left for the last run of the inning.

The Cubs started off the game with an Andres Torres triple off the right field fence. Torres was brought in two batters later by a Casey McGehee sacrifice fly to center to give Iowa an early 1-0 lead.

Tucson battled back to tie it in the second when Whitesell started off the inning with a double that almost cleared the green monster at Tucson Electric Park. After Whitesell advanced to third on a ground out, Robby Hammock drove him in with a sacrifice fly to center. The Sidewinders took their first lead of the game in the third inning with a two-out RBI single by Tim Raines, Jr.

Iowa jumped back on top with three runs in the fourth inning. Josh Kroeger brought in two of the runs with a double down the left field line. The next batter Koyie Hill added the other run with a single to center scoring Kroeger making it a 4-2 ball game.

Iowa cut Tucson's lead by two in the eighth inning with a Hill three-run homer to center. Tucson added an insurance run in the eighth when Reid Mahon drove in Phil Avlas from second.

The Sidewinders will face the Iowa Cubs in the third game of a four game series at 7:00 PM. RHP A.J. Shappi (1-2, 4.73) is scheduled to start for Tucson. Right-hander Mitch Atkins (2-0, 2.08) will start for the Cubs. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:50 p.m.
