Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Fresno, CA - Justin Leone's two run triple capped a five run bottom of the ninth inning that propelled the Fresno Grizzlies to a 6-5 win over the Sidewinders on Friday night. The loss is Tucson's eighth in a row and keeps them winless since opening night.

Leading 5-1 going to the ninth, Clint Goocher walked Eliezer Alfonso to open the frame. After a strikeout of John Bowker, Goocher (0-1) gave up a run scoring triple to Julio Cordido and a RBI double to pinch hitter Jake Wald before Emmanuel Burris doubled home a run. Ivan Ochoa's bunt single chased Goocher from the game and Cody Evans, called up from Single-A Visalia prior to the game, surrendered Leone's triple on a 0-2 pitch.

Kevin Gryboski earned the win with two innings of relief work. He allowed just an unearned run and struck out two.

The Sidewinders took a 1-0 lead on Trot Nixon's RBI single in the first. After Fresno tied the game in the second, Josh Whitesell reclaimed the lead with a solo home run to center in the fourth and extended the advantage with a two run shot in the sixth.

Whitesell is the first Sidewinder with a multi homer game this season.

Evan MacLane started for Tucson and allowed just one run in five innings of work. Dustin Glant pitched two shutout innings of relief.

The Sidewinders and Grizzlies will play game two of their series tomorrow night at Chukchansi Park. Right-hander Max Scherzer (0-0, 0.00) starts for Tucson against right-hander Victor Santos (1-0, 3.60) for Fresno. First pitch is at 7:05. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:55.
