
Sidewinders kick off playoffs Wednesday

Tucson, AZ - The Sidewinders are inviting children to be a part Tucson history by helping kickoff the first playoff game in Sidewinders history with the World's Largest Children's First Pitch. The Sidewinders will open the playoffs at home with the PCL Pacific Conference Series against the Salt Lake Bees beginning at Tucson Electric Park on Wednesday, September 6th at 6:30 p.m. followed by Thursday, September 7th at 6:30 p.m. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. for both games.
Prior to Wednesday's contests, the first 2,000 children (12 and under) through the gates with paid admission will receive a free softy ball to throw from the stands onto the field at 6:00 p.m. to commence the postseason. Children will receive a ball back to keep when exiting the stadium or at the after running the bases after the game.
The first 2,000 adults Wednesday will receive a special Sidewinders Playoff Hat with paid admission. Game 2 of the series will be the team's final Thirsty Thursday of the season featuring $1 beverages beginning with the first pitch.
The best-of-five series will continue in Salt Lake on Friday, September 8th at 6:00 p.m. and if necessary Saturday at 6:00 p.m. and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (all local Tucson times).
Should the team advance, the PCL Championship Series would also begin in Tucson on Tuesday, September 12th at 6:30 p.m. and continuing on Wednesday, September 13th at 6:30 p.m. The winner of the PCL Championship will advance to take on the International League victor at the Triple-A Championship in Oklahoma City on September 19th.
The Sidewinders finished with a franchise best 91-53 record earning the team their first PCL Southern Division title. The club won more games than any other minor league team during the 2006 season. Tucson will enter the postseason for the first time in Sidewinders history looking for the Tucson franchise's third Pacific Coast League Championship after the Toros won it all in 1991 and 1993. Tucson last made the playoffs in 1995.
