
Sidewinders can't cool off Vegas bats

Tucson, AZ - Las Vegas' 17 hits provided an 11-3 win over Tucson on Tuesday night.
Las Vegas scored in each of the first five innings of the game and Tucson was unable to come back from the deficit. The 51s got their first run off a Terry Tiffee sacrifice fly in the first. John-Ford Griffin added a solo home run in the second.
Tucson's Matt Morgan did have a break out game going 3-for-4 with two doubles and driving in two of the Sidewinders three runs. It was his second 3-hit contest this year.
Tucson put up one in the second from a Morgan double scoring Josh Whitesell from first. In the next inning, John Lindsey hit a RBI single to extend the Las Vegas' lead.
In the fourth inning Las Vegas' Ramon Martinez brought in their fourth run off a line drive single to right. Tucson cut Las Vegas' lead by two in the bottom of the fourth with a Morgan fly ball landing in shallow outfield scoring one run. The 51s put up three runs in the fifth off a Mitch Jones three-run homer to make the score 5-2.
Tucson scored their last run in the fifth inning from a Tim Raines, Jr. RBI double scoring Emilio Bonifacio from first making the score 7-3.
Las Vegas kept extending their lead in the seventh and ninth innings putting up two runs in both. A fielding error and Griffin double scored the two runs in the seventh. While a throwing error by Emiliano Fruto to wide of home plate on a fielder's choice scored one run and a sac fly by Jason Repko brought in the last run of the ninth to end Tucson's chance for their first sweep of the season.
The Sidewinders have an off day Wednesday and will travel to Sacramento on Thursday to face the River Cats at 7:05 PM. LHP Evan MacLane (3-6, 5.38) is scheduled to start for Tucson. Right-hander Kirk Saarloos (6-3, 4.66) will start for the River Cats. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:55 p.m.
