
Sidekicks fall 10-6 at Monterrey in Season Finale

MONTERREY, Mexico - The Dallas Sidekicks lose their season finale 10-6 to the Monterrey Fury at the Moterrey Arena Sunday night. The Sidekicks conclude the season at 21-15 for a 12 game improvement from last season. It is the second largest turnaround in team history behind the 13 game improvement from 12-36 in the inaugural 1984-85 season to 25-13 in 1985-86.
The Sidekicks held a 3-2 lead at the half before allowing eight second-half scores to the Fury (10-25). David Doyle scored the first of his two goals 1:10 into the third quarter for a 4-2 Dallas advantage. Monterrey answered with four of the next five scores, getting two goals from Walter Gomez and a goal each from Octavio Perez and Marco Lopez. Leo Pernia had a power play goal in the interim at 7:59 of the third with Doyle assisting. Doyle finished with two goals and two assists.
Monterrey also had four tallies in the final quarter. Perez, Lopez, Marco Coria, and Renato Pereira found the net before Doyle added a shootout goal to close the scoring at 11:24.
The Fury scored first when Armando Terna found the net for the first time this season 1:39 into the game. The Sidekicks then scored three straight. Nick Stavrou responded at 2:37 with an assist from Vassar Cates. It was the first career point for Cates, a rookie playing in his third game. Another rookie, Kenny Bundy scored his fifth goal of the season at 12:17 of the first. The second frame was scoreless until Stavrou scored on a Doyle assist with 28 seconds left. Genoni Martinez countered for the Fury with three seconds on the clock.
The Sidekicks are the Western Division Champions and number three seed in the MISL Playoffs. Dallas hosts the Cleveland Force (15-21) in the quarterfinal round at Reunion Arena Saturday April 10 at 7:35 p.m. The Sidekicks finished 15-3 at home this season. All games are on KSKY 660 AM.
