Bowers hits milestone, Sockers close season

SAN DIEGO, Calif. ­ The San Diego Sockers ended the 2003-04 season with a loss to the Kansas City Comets, 8-2 on Saturday, April 3. San Diego finished the season 13-23 overall and second in the Western Division. Sean Bowers broke the 1,000 blocks mark in the evening and holds sixth place on the all-time high list with 1,001.

The Comets¹ Jeff Davis started scoring with a goal at 6:36 in the first from Vlatko Andonovski. San Diego evened the contest four minutes later with a Larry Inlow goal. Miodrag Djerisilo, from Casey Barton, scored the game-winner at 3:05 in the second followed by teammate Anthony Maher with only 11 seconds left in the first half.

During halftime, Comets defender Wes Wade¹s No. 24 jersey was retired. Wade will be leaving indoor soccer after the 2003-04 season.

Coming back from the break, Riley Swift took his spot between the pipes and the Comets¹ Brian Soell poked one past him to give the Comets a 3-1 lead. The Sockers¹ Nino DaSilva, facing his former club for the fourth time, posted his 17th goal of the season off an assist by Bowers.

Paul Wright ended the season as the Sockers points leader with 21 goals and 28 assists for 49 points. Mariano Bollella followed with 24 goals and 10 assists for 34 points. Victor Nogueira finished the season with a 13 ­ 20 record.
