Sidekicks defeat St. Louis 7-4, will host Cleveland in Playoffs

DALLAS - The Dallas Sidekicks finished the season with a 15-3 home record after defeating the St. Louis Steamers 7-4 in front 11,016 at Reunion Arena Saturday night. The Sidekicks will host the Cleveland Force (15-21) in an MISL Quarterfinal Saturday April 10 at 7:35 p.m.

The Sidekicks outscored St. Louis (13-22) 4-1 in the second half en route to the win. Frank Filo and Mark Rowland scored third quarter goals to give Dallas a 5-3 lead after being tied at the half. Daryl Doran then pulled the Steamers within one with a restart goal at 5:06 of the fourth. Ricardinho responded for Dallas 26 seconds later to hold St. Louis at bay. Rowland added a breakaway goal with 3:46 to play for the 7-4 margin. Rowland had two second half scores and an assist.

The Sidekicks led 3-1 after the first stanza on goals from Patrick Shamu, Jose Alvarado, and David Doyle. Alvarado tallied from 120 feet at 6:41 when he caught St. Louis keeper Nando Hernandez out of net and lobbed it over him into the net. Doyle followed from about 80 feet on a similar play at 9:49. Doran scored at 4:25 for his first of two goals in the game. Matt Caution and Joe Morelli found the net for St. Louis in the second quarter.

The Sidekicks home record of 15-3 (.833) is the sixth best by percentage in team history. They improved by nine games from 6-12 at home last season to 15-3 this season, breaking the previous improvement mark of eight games set in 1985-86 and 1991-92. The Sidekicks win also clinched the largest improvement by percentage from one season to the next. The Sidekicks are 21-14 (.600), which is .350 ahead of the .250 (9-27) pace last season.

The Sidekicks finish the season at Monterrey Sunday April 4 at 6:35 p.m. The Sidekicks have clinched the third seed in the playoffs and will host the Cleveland Force in the first playoff game at Reunion Arena Saturday April 10 at 7:35 p.m. All games are on KSKY 660 AM.
