Biloxi Shuckers News Release
CHATTANOOGA, TN - IF Jake Hager has been promoted to Triple-A Colorado Springs in one of several moves made by the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday afternoon. The Biloxi Shuckers have added RHP Jon Perrin, C Max McDowell and IF Luis Aviles Jr. to their active roster to begin the second half of the 2018 Southern League season. IF Darren Seferina has been transferred to Wisconsin and C Mitch Ghelfi has been released.
Hager, a 2018 Southern League All-Star, earned his promotion with a career-best .292 batting average in 64 games. The Shuckers' shortstop bashed 10 home runs to go along with 18 doubles, 40 RBI, 28 runs scored and six stolen bases. Hager has spent parts of each of the past two seasons in Triple-A with the Durham Bulls of the Tampa Bay Rays organization.
After spending part of 2016 and all of 2017 in Biloxi, Perrin rejoins the Shuckers following a solid stint in Colorado Springs. As a reliever, he has posted a 2.59 ERA in 18 games, striking out 18 batters over 24.1 innings. Opponents have hit just .186 against him this year. A 27th round pick in 2015, Perrin went 5-3 with a 2.91 ERA in 23 games (12 starts) over 105.1 innings.
McDowell earns a promotion from Class-A Advanced Carolina following 47 appearances with the Mudcats. The Brewers' 13th round selection in 2015 has hit .222 with a pair of home runs, six doubles and 16 runs scored this season, earning him a spot on the Carolina League All-Star Team. He was also selected as a mid-season Midwest League All-Star with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in 2016.
All 67 of the games logged by Luis Aviles Jr. in 2018 with the Mudcats have been at shortstop, so he figures to be Hager's replacement at the position. The 30th round pick out of Southwest Miami (FL) HS in 2013 will see his first action at the Double-A level after calling Carolina his home for the past year and a half. Aviles Jr. has enjoyed his best offensive year with a .256 average, 30 runs scored and 16 steals in 20 tries.
The Shuckers begin a six-game series in Chattanooga against the Lookouts on Thursday. First pitch for game one tonight is 6:15 PM CT. The game can be heard locally on Cruisin' WCGM 1240 AM/ FM 100.9 and online on TuneIn Radio or the MiLB First Pitch App.
