Shrimp Announce Second Half Roster

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Miami Marlins announced a series of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp roster prior to tonight's game against the Mississippi Braves at Trustmark Park at 8:00 p.m. eastern.

Right-handed pitcher Merandy Gonzalez has been optioned from the major league Miami Marlins to Double-A Jacksonville. Gonzalez with the Marlins has been 2-0 with a 5.71 ERA in seven games out of Miami's bullpen. Gonzalez has made five starts with the Jumbo Shrimp this season, going 0-1 with a 3.43 ERA in his 21 innings of work.

On Monday, shortstop Peter Mooney and outfielder Braxton Le were transferred from Jacksonville to Triple-A New Orleans after playing for the Jumbo Shrimp last weekend. Mooney did not record a hit in 13 at-bats during his four games, while Lee hit .167 (2-for-12) in three games.

Also on Monday, infielder Chris Diaz was transferred from Triple-A New Orleans to Jacksonville. Diaz played in 11 games for the Baby Cakes, hitting .207 with three runs batted in. Earlier this season with Jacksonville, Diaz played in 39 games hitting .194 with no home runs and seven runs batted in.

The Marlins also announced on Monday that outfielder Cade Gotta has been released by the organization. Gotta played in 44 games for the Jumbo Shrimp, hitting .254 with a home run and 10 runs batted in, and he leads the Southern League with 18 stolen bases this season.

Additionally, on Tuesday, Marlins right-handed relief pitcher Nick Wittgren had his rehab assignment transferred from Jacksonville to Triple-A New Orleans. Wittgren was 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA in his two relief outings with the Jumbo Shrimp.

Yesterday relief pitchers Marcus Crescentini, Zech Lemond, and Ben Holmes were transferred from Jacksonville to High-A Jupiter. Crescentini was 1-4 with a 3.91 ERA in 23 games with five saves for the Jumbo Shrimp. Lemond, after starting the season with Jupiter, was 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in 13 appearances with Jacksonville. Holmes pitched in five games for the Jumbo Shrimp, with no wins or losses and a 4.70 ERA.

In corresponding moves, relief pitchers Lukas Schiraldi, Reilly Hovis, and Dylan Lee were transferred from High-A Jupiter to Jacksonville. Schiraldi, son of former major league pitcher Calvin Schiraldi, was 2-2 with a 1.69 ERA in 22 appearances with 10 saves, which was second-most in the Florida State League and he was honored as a Florida State League Midseason All-Star. Lee was also a midseason FSL All-Star, going 6-2 with a 1.45 ERA in 22 appearances. Hovis was 2-1 with a 3.43 ERA in his 16 relief outings.

The Jumbo Shrimp roster stands at 24 active players, and a revised roster is attached.

The Jumbo Shrimp and Braves will begin their series with the first game of the five-game series on Thursday night at Trustmark Park at 8 p.m. eastern. Jacksonville right-hander Cody Poteet (2-7, 4.79 ERA) will start for the Jumbo Shrimp against Mississippi right-hander Kyle Wright (3-7, 4.39 ERA). The Jumbo Shrimp return home Thursday, June 28, to begin a six-game series with the Montgomery Biscuits on Budweiser Thirsty Thursday, with $1 12-oz. and $2 24-oz. beers at select locations, plus $1 sodas at the main concession stands. The game is Teacher Appreciation Night.
