Shreveport Falls in Series Finale; Wins Series vs Warriors

March 7, 2021 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

The Shreveport Mudbugs (22-7-4) couldn't get much going offensively as they fell to the Wichita Falls Warriors, 2-1 Sunday afternoon at George's Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.

Wichita Falls struck first for the only goal in the opening period on the PP when Drew Vieten one-timed in his 12th tally of the season in front at 6:51 to give the Warriors the early 1-0 lead. The visiting team led in SOG, 15-6 after one.

The Bugs had some great looks, but couldn't find the back of the net as they were out-shot by Wichita Falls, 14-9 in the 2nd period. Arsenii Sergeev made some nice stops to keep the deficit at 1-0.

Wichita Falls got off to a fast start in the third period when Carter Korpi raced down the length of the ice and backhanded in his 13th tally of the season giving the Warriors a 2-0 edge at 4:31. The Bugs just couldn't get much going for most of the game as they were 0 for 5 on the PP. However at 18:25, it was David Breazeale firing home his second goal of the season from the point through traffic to give Shreveport a little life down 2-1. That's the closest the Bugs would get as the Warriors held off the surge and skated away with a 2-1 win.

Arsenii Sergeev made 42 saves in net, but suffered the tough luck loss.

The Bugs will continue their longest home-stand of the season as they'll host the New Mexico Ice Wolves for a two-game series starting next Friday night at George's Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m.
