Inside the Numbers
3 - The number of consecutive seasons that the Southern Conference Finals has gone to seven games as the Odessa Jackalopes host the Allen Americans on Wednesday in a deciding game to determine the Southern Conference Champions. Odessa was played in the South Finals in three of the past five seasons losing each of their first two chances to advance to the Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Finals. The Jacks forced the seventh game with an overtime win in Game 6 on Monday night. Last year, the Jacks lost 8-1 in Texas in Game 7 and in 2008 the Arizona Sundogs defeated the Laredo Bucks, 6-1, in the deciding game.
370 - The league-leading number of saves that Allen goaltender Chris Whitley has made this post-season. The rookie is 7-6 with a 2.99 goals against average and a .907 save percentage. His 370 total saves are 117 more than any other goaltender in the playoffs (Rapid City's Danny Battochio -253).
Playoff Goaltending Leaders
9 - The number of overtime games thus far in the 2010 playoffs. Odessa has defeated Allen twice in the South Finals in extra time and are 3-1 overall in OT. Rapid City is undefeated with a 3-0 mark, two of those coming versus Bossier-Shreveport in the North Finals.
11 - The current point streak of Odessa's Jeff Pierce who has a league best 10 goals, along with nine assists, in this year's post-season. The Troy, Michigan native was held without a point in the first game of the playoffs, a 5-2 loss to Texas, but has since notched a point in each of the team's last 11 games (the longest point streak in this year's post-season). The CHL record is 15 games set by Memphis' Don Parsons in 2002.
A Look Back
April 21, 2008 - On this date in 2008, the Arizona Sundogs took a 3-2 series lead in the Southern Conference Finals with a 2-1 victory at Tim's Toyota Center in Game 5 of their series versus the Laredo Bucks. Karl Sellan scored the game winning goal in the third period and Robert McVicer (the eventual playoff Most Valuable Player) made 30 saves earning the win. It marked the third straight one-goal game in the series. BOX SCORE
Series Notes
Martin Back to Winning Ways - The 2010 CHL Most Outstanding Goaltender, Odessa's Joel Martin, is back doing what Jacks fans are accustomed to - winning games. After losing three of his first four Presidents' Cup Playoff decisions, Martin has gone 3-1 in his last four decisions allowing three goals or fewer in all three wins. The Fort Worth, Texas native went 27-6-2 during the regular season with a 2.50 goals against average.
Game 7 in the North - The Rapid City Rush and Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs will play Game 7 of their Northern Conference Finals series on Wednesday night after the Mudbugs forced the deciding game with a 2-0 victory on Tuesday night in Game 6. The last time the North Finals went to seven games was 2008 when Colorado defeated Texas in Game 7.
Earning Fame Quickly - Forced into action due to injuries to John DeCaro and Ken Carroll, Bossier-Shreveport goaltender Parker Van Buskirk is looking like anything but a substitute leading the CHL with a 1.97 goals against average and a .937 save percentage in his five post-season starts. Van Buskirk is 3-2 in the playoffs and is coming off an outstanding performance in Game 6 of the Mudbugs series versus the Rush where he turned away all 27 shots he faced in a 2-0 win. He has allowed three goals or fewer in all five starts and has let in just four goals in his last three games.
