Three Things You Need to Know
1.) Three Still Unblemished- With two weekends in the books, there are three CHL clubs still undefeated with the Rapid City Rush and Denver Cutthroats both sitting 4-0-0 and the Missouri Mavericks sitting with a 3-0-0 mark. The Mavs (1.67 goals allowed per game) and Rush (1.75 goals allowed per game) are the two top defensive teams in the League and the Cutthroats are doing it through offense averaging 4.75 goals per game. The Allen Americans are without a regulation loss and are sitting in first place with nine points and a 4-0-1 record. Rapid City is in Arizona on Wednesday, Denver hosts Brampton and Missouri travels to St. Charles continuing their season-opening five-game road trip. Allen hosts Tulsa.
2.) Rivalry Born- The expansion St. Charles Chill (1-2-1) and the Quad City Mallards (1-1-1) became familiar with each other over the weekend with the Flock winning Saturday's game 7-5 and the Chill earning their first franchise win on Sunday, 6-5 in a shootout. The teams had two crazy games with the Mallards building a 5-0 lead in the first period on Saturday just to watch the Chill come from behind to score five straight to tie the score after two frames. Mike Hellyer and Gergo Nagy scored third period goals earning the win for the Mallards. On Sunday, the teams played in St. Charles with the game featuring four lead changes and three ties. The Chill eventually won in a shootout with Chad Costello earning the game winning goal. The teams meet a total of 14 times (seven in each venue) with the next face-to-face battle coming on Nov. 29 in Quad City.
3.) Thunder Looking to Click- The Wichita Thunder have been in every game this season but have just fallen short in most of them sporting a 1-2-2 record with four of their five contests being decided by one goal. Wichita has scored 17 goals this season in five games and special teams have been solid with eight power play goals. The Thunder's PP unit is third in the league connecting at 20.5%. Wichita is back in action on Friday night when they host the Brampton Beast in the first ever meeting between the two clubs. The Thunder were quick starters last season going 25-2-5 when scoring first. This season, they have notched the first goal twice losing both games in regulation.
By the Numbers
289: The numbers of goals that Missouri forward Sebastien Thinel has in his CHL career ranking him ninth of the League's all-time goals list (one behind Don Parsons). Thinel has two goals and an assist this season in three games. His 539 all-time assists have him tied for fourth with Jason Duda. The Mavs, 3-0-0 on the season, are back in action Wednesday night in St. Charles.
One-Timers
-The Tulsa Oilers dropped a pair of home games this past weekend and are the only remaining winless team in the CHL (0-3-1). Dating back to last season, the Oilers are without a win in their last nine games (0-7-2) and have not won a game since March 15. The Oilers travel to Allen on Wednesday looking to break that streak.
-The Missouri Mavericks and Arizona Sundogs sit 1/2 as the two most penalized teams in the CHL. The two clubs played a pair of games this past weekend combining to accumulate 187 PIM's (102 to Arizona, 85 to Missouri). The teams will meet again in Missouri on Dec. 7. The Mavs are currently averaging 35 PIM's per game and the Sundogs are averaging 32.6 PIM's per game.
-Allen rookie Alex Lavoie was named the Oakley CHL Player of the Week for Week 2 of the CHL's regular season. Lavoie scored two goals and added four assists in Allen's three victories. Both of Lavoie's goals served as the game winners. He leads all rookies with seven points on the season (3-4=7).
-Brampton is 2-2-1 on the season and not unlike other clubs, it is the offense that fuels them. In their three losses, the Beast have scored just one goal a game but in the pair of victories, the offense has totaled nine goals.
-Rapid City defenseman Tristin Llewellyn continued his hot start to the season by scoring the OT game winner for the Rush on Saturday. He has points in all four Rush games this season and leads the league's d-men with two goals and six assists (eight points).
-CHL-TV, powered by America ONE Sports, is back for a second season with monthly and season packages available as well as all games on a given night available for $8.00. Visit www.americaonesports.com for ordering information.
