November 18, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
Three Things You Need to Know
1.) Rush Fall One Short- The Rapid City Rush's amazing start to the 2013-14 season finished with the club having to accept just sharing the CHL record for most consecutive wins to start a season (10). The Rush fell to the Missouri Mavericks, 3-2, on Saturday night ending their season-opening win streak. The Mavs held a 3-0 lead after two periods behind former Rush forward Colt King's two goals, but Rapid City would battle back scoring twice in the third period. The Rush will look to continue their strong play this weekend when they travel to Wichita for a pair of games against the Thunder (2-8-4).
2.) Streaks Alive- The Tulsa Oilers (7-6-2) and the Arizona Sundogs (4-8-1) both head into the week on three game win streaks and both are playing as good of hockey as any team in the league. The Oilers began the season with a 0-5-2 record due in large part to having five games against Allen whom they went 1-3-1 against. They have gone 7-1-0 since their tough start and are now in fifth place in the conference. The Sundogs also got off to a rough start losing nine of their first 10 games (1-8-1). The Sundogs had their nemesis like the Oilers, going 0-4-1 in five games against Rapid City. Arizona has won all games on their current streak on the road winning in Denver and twice in St. Charles. This weekend, the Oilers are back in Allen on Friday and Saturday and the Sundogs host Quad City on Friday and Saturday.
3.) AHL Train- Denver goaltender Kieran Millan returned to the Fish from the Lake Erie Monsters before the weekend and he went on to earn three of a possible four points. On Friday, Millan earned his first shutout of the season and third of his pro career and then on Saturday he was handed his first setback with a 3-2 shootout loss. The Edmonton native is 4-0-1 on the season with a 1.92 goals against average (second in the CHL) and a .941 save percentage (second in the CHL). The Fish have since lost Millan who was re-summoned by the Monsters. He is joined by Daniel Maggio (Lake Erie) and A.J. Gale (Manchester) as call-ups on Monday for Denver to the AHL. The Cutthroats (7-3-3) will host the Missouri Mavericks (9-1-0) on Tuesday at the Denver Coliseum.
By the Numbers
204: The number of goals that Tulsa Oilers forward Adam Pleskach has scored in seven games he has played. The rookie has 13 points (7-6=13) on the season and is the reigning Oakley Player of the Week. Tulsa plays in Wichita on Friday and Saturday nights and then hosts Brampton on Sunday.
One-Timers
-Quad City Mallards Head Coach Terry Ruskowski is one win shy of tying Chris Stewart for third on the CHL's all-time wins list. Ruskowski has the Mallards at 5-3-1 giving him 414 wins (has spent time behind the bench for the Mallards, Laredo Bucks and Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees).
-Tulsa forward Michel Beausoleil scored four goals this past weekend (is the current Oakley Player of the Week) and currently leads the team with nine on the season. Beausoleil has broken into the CHL's top 25 all-time goal scorers with 204 in his career.
-The Brampton Beast are 0-2 on their season-long 11-game road trip after losses in Allen and Tulsa this past weekend. The Beast head to St. Charles on Wednesday before playing in Denver on Friday/Saturday.
-The St. Charles Chill (2-7-2) have scored the fewest goals in the CHL this season (29) and are currently stuck in a four-game slide (0-3-1). The Chill are winless on the road (0-3-1) and have a tough test ahead of them this weekend with back-to-back games in Missouri (9-1-0), but before that, they host Brampton (6-6-1) on Wednesday.
-Allen forward Alex Lavoie leads all rookie with 16 points (5-11=16) and over the weekend, he earned his first AHL call-up being summoned by Oklahoma City.
-The Wichita Thunder (2-8-4) dropped their third overtime game of the season on Saturday night versus Tulsa and are 1-4 in games needing extra time this season. Wichita is 0-1-1 on their current six-game home stand and at 0-5-2, are still looking for their first win on home ice this season.
-Missouri forward Sebastien Thinel has the longest point streak in the CHL this season with points in eight straight games. The veteran has scored five goals with nine assists during his streak.
-CHL-TV, powered by America ONE Sports, is back for a second season with monthly and season packages available as well as all games on a given night available for $8.00. Visit www.americaonesports.com for ordering information.
