Shock to host one millionth fan

AUBURN HILLS, Mich.-On Wednesday, July 20, the Detroit Shock expect to host their one-millionth fan in franchise history. The game against the Connecticut Sun begins at 12 p.m., with the doors opening at 10:30 a.m. Shock Fest will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the parking lot.

The selected one-millionth fan will receive two Detroit Shock season tickets for the 2006 season, a Detroit Shock prize package and a special presentation at halftime of the game.

The Detroit Shock's inaugural season was in 1998 and the Shock averaged 10,229 in 15 home games, a franchise record for average. In 2004, the Shock welcomed more than 160,000 fans during the season's 17 home games, the most total fans for a season. The Shock hold the record for single-game attendance with 22,076 fans at Game Three of the 2003 WNBA Finals against the Los Angeles Sparks on September 16, 2003.

The Washington Mystics were the first WNBA team to host their one-millionth fan and have since lead the WNBA in attendance. Washington averages more than 12,500 fans per game. The WNBA passed the one million mark in attendance in its first year on August 22, 1997. League attendance is now past the 10 million mark.

The Shock are currently fifth in the Eastern Conference (7-10).
