Shock secure 61-34 victory

Spokane, Wash: The Spokane Shock (1-3) got their first win of the young season with a 61-34 victory over the visiting Kansas City Command (0-3).

Shock quarterback Kyle Rowley passed for 219 yards and seven touchdowns, becoming the Shock's all-time leader in passing yardage (6874) and passing touchdowns (155).

Spokane started the scoring off early on their first offensive play, a 30-yard touchdown pass from Rowley to receiver Shaun Kauleinamoku. Kauleinamoku finished the game with five receptions for 77 yards and two scores.

Kansas City responded on the next drive with a seven-yard touchdown from quarterback JJ Raterink to receiver Bradly Chavez. The Command missed the PAT attempt, letting the Shock keep the lead 7-6.

After exchanging touchdowns, the Shock held a 17-12 lead when Rowley hooked up with receiver Emery Sammons for a 25-yard touchdown. The over-the-shoulder catch earned Sammons the Cutters Catch of the Game. The Shock would score the next two touchdowns, one each to receivers Greg Orton and Raul Vijil, and go into the half with a 38-12 lead.

Vijil and Sammons each caught two touchdowns while Orton snagged one. Sammons also had a rushing touchdown for the Shock's final score of the evening.

The Shock's defense posted one of their best performances of the season, forcing four turnovers, including three turnover on downs in the first half. Defensive lineman Jon Williams, who made his first start of the season, intercepted a tipped pass for the fourth turnover. The Command finished the game nearly 20 points under their average of 51.5 points per game.

Raterink came into the game averaging 335 passing yards a game, but finished with just 306 and two touchdowns. He carried the ball six times for 17 yards, including three touchdowns.

The Shock will enter their bye week, resuming the season April 15 visiting the Utah Blaze. The Shock will return home on April 30th to host the Arizona Rattlers. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased through TicketsWest.
