Cleveland Gladiators News Release

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Gladiators topped the Chicago Rush, 55-48, to win their home opener and start the season 3-0 for the first time since 2008. A crowd of 8,305 fans at Quicken Loans Arena witnessed the victory on Saturday evening. The loss was Chicago's first on the season, as they dropped to 3-1 on the year.

Gladiators quarterback Kurt Rocco went 21-of-37 passing for 320 yards and 8 touchdowns in the contest. Cleveland wide receiver Troy Bergeron snagged a game-high 10 catches for 187 yards and six touchdowns, also a game high. Bergeron's six touchdown receptions tied a franchise single-game high set by Ben Nelson last season against the Tulsa Talons in a May 15th game. The mark also tied a league-high in a single game this season.

Rocco's eight touchdown tosses were the third-most in a single game in Cleveland Gladiator history. Wide receivers Victor Williams and Robert Redd also had scoring receptions in the contest.

The Rush were led by quarterback Russ Michna, who was 21-of-35 for 235 yards and 5 touchdowns. He connected with wide receiver Reggie Gray 11 times for 144 yards and 3 scores.

Jack linebacker Mike Bragg had two interceptions in the game. It was the first time a Gladiator defender had two picks in a single contest since Brandon Hefflin snagged two on June 30th, 2008 against the Orlando Predators.

The Gladiators go into their Week 5 bye this weekend with a 3-0 record. Their next contest will be SATURDAY, APRIL 16 at 8:00 pm at Quicken Loans Arena. SINGLE-GAME TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW! For more information, visit www.clevelandgladiators.com or call 216.685.9000 today!
