Spokane Shock News Release
The Spokane Shock announced today that DL Elbert Shumake, 6-1 318, and WR/DB Roshawn Marshall, 5-10 198, have been added to their 2008 roster.
Shumake finished his collegiate career at Pikeville College, where he played in 12 games and recorded 51 tackles - including 5 sacks - with two forced fumbles. During his NFL Pro Day in 2007, Shumake demonstrated his strength and athleticism registering a 5.05 in the 40-yard dash and bench pressed 225 pounds 24 times.
Marshall spent the 2007 season on the practice squad for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). His college career was completed in 2006 splitting time, between the College of the Canyons and Central Missouri State University. As a sophomore at the College of the Canyons, Marshall was a key component of the National Championship team that went undefeated with a 14-0 record. As a punt returner, Marshall averaged 11.4 yards/return and contributed 24 tackles with two interceptions as a defensive back. That season, he was also named to the JC All-American First team and became the first player in school history to win All-Conference awards in two positions: as a defensive back and as a return specialist. During his time at CMSU, Marshall set the single-season punt return record with four returned for touchdowns, including an 82-yard return.
"I'm extremely happy to have both of these incredibly talented players on our roster," Head Coach Adam Shackleford said. "Roshawn will be able to use his quickness to close on wide receivers in this offense- oriented league. Shumake is one of those players who just has a nose for the ball. He has no problem penetrating the pocket and he showed that at Pikeville."
