Shock Re-Sign Center Kara Braxton

Auburn Hills, MI - Detroit Shock Head Coach and General Manager Bill Laimbeer announced today that the team has matched Los Angeles' offer sheet for 6-foot-6 center Kara Braxton keeping her under contract with Detroit. Per team policy, details of the contract were not disclosed.

"Our philosophy is not to allow other teams to steal our players away with money," said Laimbeer.

In 2008, Braxton, 24, appeared in 33 games, including 10 starts, and averaged a career-high 8.9 points and 5.1 rebounds in 17.9 minutes per game. In 10 games as a starter she averaged 9.1 points and 6.1 rebounds in 19.4 minutes per game. She swatted away a career-high 24 blocks, scored a career-high 26 points vs. Atlanta (6/29) and tied her career high in assists with four vs. Connecticut (7/8) last season. Braxton also registered her 50th career block vs. Washington on July 11 and grabbed the 500th rebound of her career vs. Los Angeles on July 22.

The Jackson, Mich., native was drafted by Detroit with the 7th selection in the first round of the 2005 WNBA Draft. Braxton has appeared in 131 WNBA games over the last four seasons with averages of 6.7 points and 4.2 rebounds in 14.9 minutes per game.
