SPOKANE, Washington (May 20, 2015) - The Shock were assigned veteran defensive lineman Kevin McCullough and receiver Samuel Charles to the 2015 active roster today amongst a flurry of roster moves prior to Spokane's Week 9 match-up against the Las Vegas Outlaws.
McCullough (6-2, 240, Cincinnati) joins the Shock for his fifth season as a member of the AFL after spending the last three seasons with the three-time defending ArenaBowl Champion Arizona Rattlers. During this three years in Arizona, McCullough recorded 115.5 total tackles, one sack, three tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, six pass break-ups, and nine interceptions. During his rookie season in the Arena Football League in 2010, McCullough spent time with the Oklahoma City Yard Dogs and the Shock where he combined for 56.0 total tackles, two sacks, four tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, four pass break-ups, and three interceptions. Prior to joining the AFL, McCullough played with Spokane in the af2 for two seasons (2008-2009) and collected 132.5 total tackles, 15 interceptions, 13 pass break-ups, and four fumble recoveries. McCullough was a part of the Shock's 2009 af2 championship team. Prior to his professional career, McCullough played his collegiate football at the University of Cincinnati where he earned First Team All-Big East honors as a senior.
Charles (6-3, 210, Edward Waters) has been assigned to the Shock roster after joining the team originally at the end of the 2014 AFL season. Beginning the 2015 season with Spokane, Charles played in one game and recorded two receptions for 14 yards. He was then placed on the injured reserve list on April 3. After being reassigned on May 18 and clearing waivers, Spokane added Charles back to the active roster. Charles played his collegiate football at the NAIA college of Edward Waters where he earned NAIA Second Team honors in 2009.
Duster (5-11, 290, North Alabama) has been activated from the injured reserve list to the active roster. Duster was assigned to the Spokane roster for his rookie AFL season after he attended an off-season tryout at Georgia State University held by the Shock. He was placed on the injured reserve list at the conclusion of the team's 2015 training camp. During his collegiate career at the University of North Alabama, Duster saw action in 34 games as he recorded 94 total tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, and four sacks.
Sambrano (5-11, 175, Montana) joins the Shock via trade as a part of owed future considerations from the Los Angeles Kiss that were acquired after Spokane traded quarterback Danny Southwick. Sambrano joins the Shock for his rookie season as a member of the AFL after playing three games this season for Los Angeles where he recorded four receptions for 61 yards and two touchdowns. Sambrano played his collegiate career at the University of Montana where he was a three-year starter for the Grizzlies. He finished his college career with 1,787 receiving yards while earning Second Team All-Big Sky honors in 2011 and honorable mention All-Big Sky recognition in 2010.
Washington (5-8, 175, Hawaii) has been placed on the injured reserve list after suffering an Achilles tendon injury in Spokane's Week 8 match-up against the San Jose Sabercats. The 2015 AFL season marks Washington's fifth season in Arena Football. After he played his three seasons with the Pittsburgh Power (2011-2013), Washington joined the Shock via trade prior to the start of the 2014 season. During his first four seasons (2011-2014), Washington recorded 471 receptions for 5,802 yards and 123 receiving touchdowns. Through the first seven games of the 2015 AFL regular season, he collected 59 receptions for 801 yards and 15 scores.
Taylor (6-0, 320, Michigan) has been placed on the inactive reserve list and will not be active for Spokane's Week 9 game in Las Vegas. He anticipated to return to the active roster in the coming weeks once he is cleared by team medical staff. Through the first seven games of 2015, Taylor has played in six games for the Shock and recorded 7.5 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, and one fumble recovery. Taylor first joined the Shock in 2011 for his rookie AFL season but would finish the season with Pittsburgh where he would continue to play in 2012. He would the rejoin Spokane for the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Over his first four AFL seasons, Taylor recorded 66.0 total tackles (45 solo), 17.5 sacks, 20 tackles for loss, 11 forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, two pass break-ups, and one interception.
Fitzgerald (6-1, 205, Rocky Mountain) has been placed on recallable reassignment. If the Shock do not recall Fitzgerald within the 48-hour window, he will be placed on the 24-hour waivers list and eligible for teams to claim him. If he clears waivers, he will become a free agent. Fitzgerald joined the Shock for his rookie season in 2014 and played in 11 games as he recorded 21 tackles and one interceptions. Through the first seven games of the 2015, Fitzgerald played in six contests as he recorded 32.5 total tackles (29 solo), one pass break-up, and one fumble recovery.
Dace (5-11, 190, Rhode Island) was placed on recallable reassignment on May 18. He will become a free agent after clearing waivers. Dace played in seven games for the Shock this season as he recorded a team-high 42.5 total tackles (38 solo), two interceptions, and eleven pass break-ups. Prior to joining Spokane, Dace played his rookie season of 2014 with the Iowa Barnstormers where he saw action in 12 games (three starts) and recorded 35 total tackles (32 solo), one interception, and ten pass break-ups.
Jeffries (6-4, 325, Oklahoma) has been activated from league suspension and added back to Spokane's injured reserve list. Jeffries was placed on league suspension on May 6 in order to return home and spend time with his family. The 2015 season is his rookie season as a member of the AFL.
