Spokane Shock News Release

Spokane, WA: The Spokane Shock announced today that DE Chase Ortiz has been added to the 2011 roster.

In 2008, Ortiz signed as an undrafted free agent with the Cleveland Browns where he appeared in four preseason games before he was released.

The following season, Ortiz signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL as a member of their practice squad.

Ortiz had a decorated career at Texas Christian University where he was a three-time All-Conference selection. In 38 games as a Horned Frog, Ortiz collected 106 tackles - including 41.5 for loss - with 20.5 sacks and one interception. As a senior, Ortiz ranked among the Mountain West Conference and national leaders in sacks (nine), tackles for a loss (16.5), and forced fumbles (three).

"With his speed and his size (6-3, 245), Ortiz fits our mold for a speed rusher," Head Coach Rob Keefe explained. "He had a taste of the NFL and we hope to get him back up there after a successful season with the Shock."

The defending ArenaBowl Champion Shock will begin the 2011 season on the road against the San Jose SaberCats on March 11th. The following week, the Shock will host the Cleveland Gladiators in Spokane on March 19th.
