
Shock Activate Iron-Man Arvell Nelson

SPOKANE, Washington (June 16, 2015) - The Shock have activated quarterback Arvell Nelson from the refuse to report list today.
Arvell Nelson (6-5, 225, Texas Southern) joins the Shock for his third AFL season and his second season in Spokane. During his rookie season with the Shock in 2013, Nelson served as a utility player for the team. He played backup quarterback to 2013 AFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year Erik Meyer while also logging time at jack-linebacker, wide receiver, and on multiple special teams units. While under center in 2013, he completed 16-of-20 pass attempts for 162 yards and five touchdowns while adding four rushing scores. At receiver he recorded nine receptions for 67 yards and six touchdowns. Defensively, he added 16 total tackles. In 2014 with the Pittsburgh, Nelson assumed a similar role with the Power (18 total appearances, starting 14 at jack-linebacker where he collected 60 tackles) while also playing backup quarterback to Tommy Grady. Nelson began his collegiate career at the University of Iowa before transferring to Fort Scott Community College and then to Texas Southern where he passed for 21 touchdowns and rushed for four scores during his two seasons as a starter. Nelson originally hails from Cleveland, OH.
ADDITIONAL TRANSACTIONS
The Shock have placed offensive lineman Kaycee Ike (6-4, 200, UAB) and defensive lineman Alex Magee (6-4, 270, Purdue) on reassignment.
