North Shore Honu News Release

With two out and a runner on second in the bottom of the 10th inning, pinch hitter Shintaro Yoshida singled to left field and plated Mat Gamel to give the North Shore Honu the 3-2 victory over the Honolulu Sharks tonight in a Hawaii Winter Baseball game at Waipahu's Hans L'Orange Park. Jeramy Laster hit his second home run of the season, a two-run blast in the fifth inning, to carry the North Shore offense that collected 10 hits on the evening.

The Honu (6-2) had a golden opportunity to end the game in the home half of the ninth as Michael Griffin came to the plate with the score tied at 2-2 with one out and runners on second and third base. But the left fielder lined into an inning-ending double play started by Sharks hurler, and the game's eventual losing pitcher, Anthony Claggett (0-1) who caught Griffin's line drive, and doubled Jonathan Lucroy off at third base.

Despite not factoring in the game's decision, North Shore starting pitcher Brett Sinkbeil stifled the Honolulu (3-5) hitters. In four innings, the Florida marlins prospect did not allow a hit while striking out five Shark batters. Honu reliever Takashi Kamoshida followed suit, shutting out Honolulu through three innings on two hits while also striking out five. Omar Aguilar earned his first victory of the HWB campaign after pitching a scoreless 10th inning.

Both squads have tomorrow off.
