April 9, 2017 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Stockton Heat News Release
Stockton, Calif. - Stockton Heat forward Hunter Shinkaruk netted a pair Saturday night to help lead the Heat to a 5-2 win over the San Jose Barracuda at Stockton Arena. Shinkaruk had plenty of help from linemates Linden Vey (3 assists) and Ryan Lomberg (2 assists), while rookie defenseman Adam Ollas Mattsson potted his first AHL goal on what would become the eventual game-winning tally. The Stockton Heat and San Jose Barracuda now look forward to finishing their season-series and their home-and-home this weekend with a Sunday matinee at the SAP Center.
PLAYOFF PICTURE With the win tonight, the Heat move four points clear of Bakersfield for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Pacific Division. With both Stockton and Bakersfield playing Sunday in San Jose and San Antonio respectively, if those two games go Stockton's way (Heat win, Bakersfield loss), then the Heat could potentially be in a position to clinch the playoff spot on Wednesday against Ontario. Also, with San Diego's loss Saturday to Ontario, the San Jose Barracuda have officially clinched the top spot in the Pacific Division.

QUOTES "Our line has been creating a lot. Not just scoring goals, but it seems like every shift we're getting opportunities and this is the time of year to heat up and hopefully it continues." - Linden Vey on the recent success of playing next to Hunter Shinkaruk and Ryan Lomberg.
"I think this team is one of the more physical teams I've been on. You look at the lineup, every line has a little bit of grit and I think that's the reason why we're winning these games down the stretch. They're the closest games, they're usually one or two goal games and just to have the tenacity and the firepower that we have, it really helps us here in the later half of the season." - Vey on the physicality of the team and how it's leading to victories.
"It's not my type of game, but still it's always a bonus to score a goal so it's kind of nice to get it out of the way so I don't have to focus so much on that." - Adam Ollas Mattsson on his first career AHL goal.
"Every game is huge and we know that. I think our team has really done a good job of maintaining a calmness. It's pretty relaxed and fun around the room, but when we get into games, we know what's at stake." - Hunter Shinkaruk on the team's recent success and how they will continue it.
"That playoff opportunity is the most important part of this victory. We knew coming in this one this would be a big one. [San Jose] had a few guys that were called up and this was a game that we had to take advantage of. I loved the way we started tonight and thought that we were sharp and engaged and skated. We answered the physical bell as well, which is something that's important here at home." - Head Coach Ryan Huska on tonight's victory.
"I feel like we have been in this [playoff] mode for three weeks now because we put ourselves in a tough spot, but I loved the way our guys played tonight. I felt like we did it the right way early on, where we took the game to them. In the second period, I thought they turned the tide a bit and were the better team, but in the third period, I thought we settled down and found a way to get the goal to put the game out of reach." - Coach Huska on his team's recent success and how it carried into tonight.
